Oil is the life blood of an engine. It lubricates the cylinders in the engine block so the metal does not touch metal but is separated by a thin coat of oil.
Oil also dissipates the heat that is created inside the engine keeping the engine cool. If your oil is running low it is likely the engine temperature will rise and shorten the life of the engine.
Regularly changing your oil keeps dirt out of the cylinders. This is because the oil suspends dirt and keeps the dirt from wearing down the metal. The cylinders are the heart of car keeping them functioning well means the heart of your car will work well.

When to change your oil
Most people change their oil every 3,000 miles. More and more car manufactures are recommending the oil be changed every 5,000 miles. If you are changing the oil every 5,000 be sure to tell the shop so the oil is rated for 5,000 not 3,000 miles. Although many oils will not start breaking down until after 5,000 miles, dirt does still get into the oil and wear down the parts. It is my experience that the cars which last 200,000 miles or more have had their oil changed every 3,000 miles. You can consult your owner's manual to find out how often the manufacturer recommends your car's oil be changed.
Oil Light
There are two types of oil lights in cars. One type of light tells you when it is time to change your oil. The second type of oil light tells you that the oil in your car is low. If the oil in your car is low it is essential to get the oil changed ASAP.
Oil Leaks
If your car has an oil leak we can determine where the leak is coming from and how to fix it. Often it is as simple are tightening the oil filter or the oil filter bolt. Sometimes the seal on the oil pan is leaking. Whatever the problem is we can fix it.
